Many of the UK’s top stately homes for film and TV are based in the south east with Hatfield House coming top and Blenheim Palace, Somerset House, Knebworth House, Hampton Court Palace, West Wycombe Park and Waddesdon Manor all making the top 10 list.

Ingrid Flute’s Yorkshire Holiday Cottages has analysed data from IMDB, TripAdvisor and TikTok to name the best stately home film locations ‘as seen on screen’.

West Wycombe Park in Buckinghamshire came in sixth place for being a filming location seen in X Men: First Class, Downton Abbey and The Duchess.

Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire is seen in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Crown.

Data was broken down further to name the top 5 stately homes in several more categories; award-winning, rising stars, fan favourites and the most seen on screen.

To discover which stately homes have proved most popular in recent years the date looks at the number of productions filmed at the historic house since 2015 and factored in what percentage of overall productions have been a recent film or TV.

West Wycombe Park featured in the list as becoming a popular filming location.

Waddesdon Manor was also named runner up in the number of films and TV shows which one at least one Oscar, Emmy or Golden Globe after it was filmed there.

The total number of awards were then added up for any productions filmed at the stately.
