Sadiq Khan’s political future hangs in the balance today as votes are counted in the race for Mayor of London.

So far in the 2024 local elections, the Tories have taken a battering as Labour, Lib and Greens have celebrated victories.

Today, the results of key mayoral elections in London, the West Midlands, Manchester will be among the results announced. Councils including North Tyneside, Epping Forest, Stroud and Warrington will also declare today.

So far, Labour has won three new mayoral elections in England, including the York and North Yorkshire, an area which includes Rishi Sunak’s constituency, the East Midlands and the North East.

Tory Mayor Ben Houchen clung on in Tees Valley for a third term and the Lib Dems won Tunbridge Wells and Devon.

Meanwhile, the Green Party has taken its target council of Bristol from Labour.

Figures from the Labour Party in London were nervous on Thursday night about what appeared to be a low turnout among voters in the capital.
