Marcus Monzo arrives at court charged with murder of schoolboy Daniel Anjori in Hainault

A fundraiser set up in the wake of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin’s death has surpassed £45,000 pounds just a day after it was created.

The GoFundMe page was set up by a friend of Daniel’s brother on Wednesday to raise money for the family.

Teenager Daniel Anjorin died on Tuesday morning after being stabbed by a sword-wielding man. A suspect is currently being tried in court for murder.

“On the 30th April, 2024, as [Daniel] was going to school he was ruthlessly attacked and unfortunately passed from the injuries he sustained,” the page’s message reads. “He was only in Year 9 and was a loved student at Bancrofts in Woodford. He meant so much to a lot of people and will be dearly missed.” The creator Kwasi Asare hopes to raise at least £60,000 through the page.

Tributes for Daniel have been pouring in since his death. A statement issued by his school said: “We are devastated by the heartbreaking news… This has left us in profound shock and sorrow.”

Headteacher pays tribute to Daniel Anjorin as school mourns ‘heartbreaking loss’ of pupil

The headteacher of Daniel Anjorin’s school Bancroft’s has paid tribute to the 14-year-old as the community mourns the “heartbreaking loss” of one of their pupils.

Simon Marshall, head of the private school in Woodford Green, said in a statement: “Daniel joined Bancroft’s at seven years old and quickly became a core member of our community. He was a true scholar, demonstrating commendable dedication to his academic pursuits. His positive nature and gentle character will leave a lasting impact on us. Losing such a young pupil is something we will always struggle to come to terms with. Our thoughts and prayers at this moment are with Daniel’s family and friends.

“It seems scarcely believable that less than a year on from the terrible death of Grace O’Malley Kumar in the Nottingham attacks we are facing fresh sorrow.

“All we can do for now is to look after one another and respect the privacy of Daniel’s family – it is a time of profound grief and as a community we will endure best if we come together in kindness and compassion.”

He added that the school is open over the next couple of afternoons for members of the Bancroft’s community to come and lay flowers in the Chapel and to sign a book of condolences.
