English Premier League table 2023/24: Updated EPL standings as Chelsea thrash Everton | Sporting News

Manchester City stormed to the top of the Premier League table with a dominant 5-1 win over Luton Town on Saturday before Anfield was the scene of an unexpected twist in the title race.

With Liverpool and Arsenal playing on Sunday, Pep Guardiola’s side took first place in the table for the first time since November.

They remained there on Sunday afternoon after an Eberechi Eze goal was enough to give Crystal Palace a shock 1-0 win over Liverpool. With Aston Villa then defeating Arsenal 2-0 at Emirates Stadium, this was a weekend to savour for City supporters.

Elsewhere, Newcastle leapfrogged Man United in the table as Eddie Howe’s men battered Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 at St James’ Park. Chelsea then closed on the European places after destroying Everton 6-0 at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

For a moment or two, the great escape looked on for Burnley as they took the lead against Brighton. Roberto De Zerbi’s side equalised late to rescue a point at Turf Moor.

The Sporting News will update the table below and break down each of the key races throughout the 2023/24 season.

Champions League spots, European places 2023/24

The big news in 2023/24 is that there’s a scenario in which the Premier League could see the top five teams all qualify for the UEFA Champions League if England finishes as one of the top two performing nations in European club cup competitions.

If the FA Cup winner or Carabao Cup winner finish in the top four, the European cup berth that accompanies that title would go to the next team in the Premier League standings not already qualified for Europe.
