BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State women’s basketball team will travel to Shepherd, WV, to play the Shepherd Rams on Tuesday afternoon. The contest, which will tipoff at 1 p.m. E.T., will be the fifth straight road contest.

The Series
Bowie State and Shepherd are tied at two wins apiece against one another since the 2011 season. The last time these two teams met was during the 2022-23 season in Bowie, Md., as the Bulldogs defeated the Rams, 78-52.
Last Whistle
Anii Harris collected 24 points, but the Bowie State women’s basketball team fell to the UDC Firebirds 98-73 on the road Saturday, dipping the Bulldogs overall record to .500 at 2-2 overall. Harris added three steals to her 24 point game to lead the Bulldogs (2-2). Katerra Myers helped out with 16 points and seven rebounds and Mia Smith chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds. Led by Shanysse Alexander’s two offensive rebounds, Bowie State pulled down 16 boards that resulted in 18 second chance points.
Bowie State’s defense held UDC to only 36.8-percent shooting from the field. The Bulldogs trailed 22-14 after the first quarter as UDC carried a 50-37 lead at halftime. From there, BSU had to play catch up but was outscored 21-18 in the third and 27-18 in the fourth quarter.
The Opponent
Shepherd is still in search of its first win of the 2023-24 season after falling to Virginia State, 91-58 on Nov. 11 and West Virginia State, 93-55 on Nov. 16. Both contests were on the road. Tuesday’s game will be the home opener for the Rams, a team that finished 1-26 overall, 1-21 in the PSAC and 1-11 at home last year. Shepherd was picked to finish ninth in the PSAC East Preseason Poll which also features nine teams.
Next Up
Following the Thanksgiving Holiday, the Bulldogs will return to action on Monday, Nov. 25 for its home opener against California (PA) inside A.C. Jordan Arena. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. The Vulcans have won three-straight over BSU since 2011, including last year’s setback 78-62 on the road.
