UF women’s basketball earns first road win in SEC play against Mississippi State, 90-70

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Gators defeated the Bulldogs on the road Sunday afternoon, winning 90-70. This victory marks Florida’s first road win in SEC play. The last time the two teams met Mississippi State defeated Florida. UF came out strong and made sure that wouldn’t happen again, solidifying a 20-point win. Florida had five players in double figures for scoring and was led once more by Leilani Correa with 29-points.

The Gators dominated the first half. On offense Zippy Broughton and Correa both hit double-digits in scoring. Florida’s initial 50-points was an all-around team effort with 22 bench points, 20 points in the paint, and 10 points off turnovers. The Gators went into the second half with an 18-point advantage over the Bulldogs (50-32).

In the second half, Florida did not take its foot off the pedal. They continued to bring the pressure to win 90-70. The Gators closed the contest with 42 points in the paint and 40 bench points. The Gators to shot 35-58 from the field. Defensively, Florida forced MSU to commit 20 turnovers.

Correa led the Gators with 29-points, banking in five 3-pointers. Broughton followed close behind scoring 16 points, a team high six assists and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Alberte Rimdal finished the game with 13 points, nailing in three 3-pointers. The Gators matched their season high in three-pointers with 11.

Florida will return home for a Thursday night contest against Ole Miss. The game is set to tip-off at 6 p.m. in the O’Dome and will can be watched via SECN+.
